چکیده

It is well known that convex SQP subproblems with a Euclidean norm trust region constraint can be reduced to second order cone programs for which the theory of Euclidean Jordan-algebras leads to efficient interior-point algorithms. Here, a brief and self-contained outline of the principles of such an implementation is given. All identities relevant for the implementation are derived from scratch and are compared to interior-point methods for linear programs. Sparsity of the data of the SQP subproblem can be maintained essentially in the same way as for interior-point methods for linear programs. The presentation is intended as an introduction for students and for colleagues who may have heard about Jordan algebras but did not yet find the time to get involved with them. A simple Matlab implementation is made available and the discussion of implementational aspects addresses a scaling property that is critical for SQP subproblems.

Integration of Sequential Quadratic Programming and Domain Decomposition Methods for Nonlinear Optimal Control Problems

We discuss the integration of a sequential quadratic programming (SQP) method with an optimization-level domain decomposition (DD) preconditioner for the solution of the quadratic optimization subproblems. The DD method is an extension of the well-known Neumann-Neumann method to the optimization context and is based on a decomposition of the first order system of optimality conditions. The SQP ...

A Class of Linear Generalized Equations

Solution stability of a class of linear generalized equations in finite dimensional Euclidean spaces is investigated by means of generalized differentiation. Exact formulas for the Fréchet and the Mordukhovich coderivatives of the normal cone mappings of perturbed Euclidean balls are obtained. Necessary and sufficient conditions for the local Lipschitz-like property of the solution maps of such...

An SQP-type algorithm for nonlinear second-order cone programs

We propose an SQP-type algorithm for solving nonlinear second-order cone programming (NSOCP) problems. At every iteration, the algorithm solves a convex SOCP subproblem in which the constraints involve linear approximations of the constraint functions in the original problem and the objective function is a convex quadratic function. Those subproblems can be transformed into linear SOCP problems...

A Feasible Trust-Region Sequential Quadratic Programming Algorithm

An algorithm for smooth nonlinear constrained optimization problems is described, in which a sequence of feasible iterates is generated by solving a trust-region sequential quadratic programming (SQP) subproblem at each iteration, and perturbing the resulting step to retain feasibility of each iterate. By retaining feasibility, the algorithm avoids several complications of other trust-region SQ...

Second-Order-Cone Constraints for Extended Trust-Region Subproblems

The classical trust-region subproblem (TRS) minimizes a nonconvex quadratic objective over the unit ball. In this paper, we consider extensions of TRS having extra constraints. When two parallel cuts are added to TRS, we show that the resulting nonconvex problem has an exact representation as a semidefinite program with additional linear and second-order-cone constraints. For the case where an ...
